The Asian University Basketball League is ready to hit the hardwood again as it attempts to take Asian college basketball global, and league officials want Japan to play a role.

The AUBL¡¯s inaugural season saw the league, which counts former NBA star and Chinese basketball legend Yao Ming among its backers, stage a 12-team tournament in Hangzhou, China, featuring schools from across Asia in August 2025. The AUBL is planning to stage another summer tournament this August, but the bigger event comes later in the year, when 16 teams from across Asia compete in a full season ¡ª complete with home and away games ¡ª scheduled to run from November to April.
