This time it was Spanish No. 3 seed Garbine Muguruza, who lost to Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals at Ariake Coliseum on Thursday night.
¡°It was a tricky opponent, especially because she played very well,¡± Muguruza said. ¡°I feel like the first set was a little bit equal, I managed to break her serve a couple of times but got broken twice too, so yeah, that was pretty equal. Then I lost that first set, and she just kind of elevated her game and really played better.¡±
