The dominance of the X League champion in the Rice Bowl extended for another year, as the Fujitsu Frontiers defeated the Kwansei Gakuin University Fighters 33-24 for the overall national championship on Saturday at Tokyo Dome.

The Frontiers captured their first Rice Bowl title while the Fighters lost for the fourth straight season. Now the X League representatives have beaten the collegiate champions sixth consecutive years and 10 times out of the last 11 years.

The Frontiers had to play without two key American players ¡ª quarterback Colby Cameron and defensive lineman Austin Flynn. Cameron, who threw 22 touchdown passes this season, his first with the Frontiers, hurt his right shoulder during the X League championship game against the IBM BigBlue last month and Flynn was sidelined because of a back injury.
