Regarding Lance Braman¡¯s March 9 letter, ¡±¡°: I found his criticism of the pro-active stance taken by Debito Arudou unrealistic. Braman has not advised how ¡°responsible people¡± would achieve their desired ends. Should anyone who disagrees with aspects of ¡°Japanese culture¡± and how it impinges upon him or her just shut up and write letters to The Japan Times to complain?
Arudou deserves credit for his pursuit of a mission that works to benefit the status of foreigners in Japan. He has been at it a long time and his conviction to the cause resounds. If Braman could make as productive a contribution on how the marginalized position of foreigners in the Japanese context could be alleviated, I would be glad to hear it.
