Milan ¨C Dutch speedskating star Femke Kok smashed the field and the Olympic record in the women¡¯s 1,000 meters on Monday in Milan, posting a time of 1 minute, 12.59 seconds.
But it was her teammate who had the last word.
Kok¡¯s mark lasted all of five minutes as Jutta Leerdam lowered the mark to 1:12.31 from the final pairing of the evening, with Japan¡¯s Miho Takagi coming home in 1:13.95 to take bronze.
