As more men in Japan are using incontinence pads and adult diapers amid an aging society and rising numbers of cancer patients, many facilities are placing sanitary boxes in men¡¯s restrooms to meet their needs.

However, the bins are often mistaken for regular garbage bins, indicating the need to increase awareness of their proper usage.

Minna ni Yasashii Toire Kaigi, which roughly translates as ¡°everyone deserves a nice toilet council,¡± a citizens¡¯ group based in Nagasaki promoting restrooms friendly to everyone, began working to spread the idea of placing sanitary bins in men¡¯s restrooms after a doctor at Nagasaki University consulted with the group.
