Opposition party Sanseito has submitted a bill to the Upper House to call?for the establishment of a new agency that comprehensively deals with policies on foreign nationals in Japan.
The bill, submitted?on Wednesday, proposes affiliating the new agency with the Cabinet Office and having it led by a dedicated minister. It also calls for abolishing the Immigration Services Agency, which is affiliated with the Justice Ministry, and transferring its tasks to the new agency.
The proposed agency will work with different ministries and agencies on policies to address issues relating to foreign nationals such as labor and social welfare, and aim to maintain public order, according to the bill.
After submitting the bill, Sanseito leader Sohei Kamiya told reporters that the policies of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi¡¯s administration regarding foreign nationals ¡°are extremely insufficient.¡±
¡°We need stronger and clearer policies,¡± Kamiya said, before adding that Japan should put a cap on the number of foreign nationals who can come and live in the country.
