Formerly known as the Indo-Pacific Command, the command has reverted to its prior name, the Pacific Command, or PACOM, the U.S. Defense Department said in a statement Tuesday.
The once and current PACOM¡¯s vast area of responsibility ¡ª spanning the waters off the U.S. West Coast to the western border of India ¡ª ¡°remains exactly the same,¡± the Pentagon said, adding that its ¡°fundamental mission and its unwavering commitment to maintaining a free and open theater alongside regional allies and partners are unchanged.¡±
