Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has proposed a new framework to Group of Seven leaders for coordinating critical mineral stockpiles among the grouping and like-minded countries, amid China¡¯s tight grip on key supply chains.
After arriving in France for her first G7 summit Monday, the Japanese leader called for ¡°accelerating the diversification of supply sources,¡± with the plan likely to involve participating countries holding at least 90 days¡¯ worth of critical minerals and coordinating with the International Energy Agency on joint releases during supply disruptions.
But the recipients of any releases would be limited to companies that pledged to shift procurement to alternative supply countries, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun daily.
