Brokers and other firms in the ※immigration business§ 〞 many of them Chinese 〞 have long been suspected of being behind some foreign nationals obtaining business manager visas through questionable means, which prompted the government to tighten restrictions on the visa*s criteria last October.

The measures vary from establishing shell companies in Japan and using rental-property investments as the basis for visa applications, to naming the applicants*?children studying in Japan as company executives in order to establish a business.

Shady visa applications using shell companies can often be identified from the paperwork, with unusually small offices and addresses shared by multiple firms among the red flags.
