China＊s Liaoning aircraft carrier strike group conducted exercises in the Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines last week, the Defense Ministry in Tokyo announced, as China lashed out at Japan over its defense buildup and growing security ties with Manila.
The Japanese Defense Ministry＊s Joint Staff said in a statement late Monday that the Maritime Self-Defense Force had tracked the Liaoning and accompanying vessels in waters east of ?the Philippines＊ Luzon island from May 26 through Friday.?
A map accompanying the statement showed the flotilla heading southeast from an area off Luzon on Friday. The current whereabouts of the warships was not immediately clear.?
