Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE)?¡ª?which goes beyond studying about the human body and reproductive health to cover topics such as sexual diversity and gender equality?¡ª?has been widely adopted in Western nations. While still limited in scope, some schools and municipalities in Japan are taking similar approaches, often with the support of external specialists.
Tokai Junior and Senior High School, a private all-boys institution in Nagoya, held a series of CSE lessons for three days in February, taught by?obstetrician-gynecologist Kanako Ito, 49, and pediatrician Shigetomo Mori, 35.
The two doctors, who also conduct similar lessons at Nagoya¡¯s public junior high schools, carried out a CSE program for two classes of third-year junior high school students, holding a total of six lessons under the title: ¡°What does it mean to be truly attractive?¡±
