The U.K.¡¯s parliamentary standards commissioner has launched an inquiry into whether Nigel Farage breached the House of Commons code of conduct by failing to declare a ?5 million ($6.8 million) gift from Christopher Harborne.
Farage accepted the sum from the Thailand-based British cryptocurrency investor shortly before saying he would stand for a House of Commons seat in the 2024 general election. The Reform UK?leader has claimed an exemption from stringent reporting rules, saying it was a private gift to cover his personal security.
Harborne has since donated at least ?12 million more to Reform, including the biggest ever political gift to a U.K. party from a living donor.
