Hokkaido police arrested a 46-year-old woman Tuesday on suspicion of murdering her 6-year-old son at their home in the city of Sapporo.
The suspect, Yukie Kamii, a self-described part-time worker who lives in the city¡¯s Teine Ward, is accused of strangling her son, Yusho, a first-grade elementary school student, sometime between Monday morning and evening, according to reports by Hokkaido Television Broadcasting.
According to police, Kamii called emergency services at around 7:40 p.m. that day, telling operators: ¡°My child is dead. I killed him.¡±
Officers who arrived at the home found the boy unconscious and not breathing. He was taken to a hospital in the city, where his death was later confirmed.
Kamii has since denied the allegations, telling police, ¡°I did not kill my son,¡± despite her initial statement. Her accounts of the incident have been inconsistent, prompting police to conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boy¡¯s death.
Investigators believe the incident occurred between 6:30 a.m. and shortly before the emergency call was made.
