Members of a Lower House panel focused on revising Japan＊s Constitution discussed on Thursday a potential new clause to deal with national crises 〞 with most of those favoring revision hoping the move will achieve a breakthrough change to the top law in an area where there is already a general consensus.
The ruling Liberal Democratic Party?and its junior coalition partner Japan Innovation Party, as well as the opposition＊s Democratic Party for the People (DPP), are among the parties pushing for constitutional revision. Such a move has long been taboo in Japan, where the 1947 Constitution has never been amended.
