Details from the Centrist Reform Alliance (CRA)¡¯s Lower House election analysis emerged this week, revealing its assessment of how the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDP) and Komeito performed as partners in the February snap election.
The internal study confirmed what many political observers had already concluded ¡ª the attempt to fuse these two parties into a coherent centrist alternative faced structural flaws from the start.
The report acknowledged that the CRA had overestimated the effectiveness of simply combining the support bases of the CDP and Komeito, while also failing to keep pace with rapidly shifting public opinion. Just two months after joining forces the CRA, the CDP and Komeito are at a crossroads to determine their way forward.
