Shogo Tsuchiya first got involved with the reconstruction of Fukushima Prefecture following the March 2011 nuclear meltdown while working at an advertising agency in Tokyo, and later, during a secondment to the industry ministry.
Determined to help rebuild Futaba 〞 home to the tsunami-stricken Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant 〞 Tsuchiya, now 60, decided to change his job and relocate to the town from Tokyo to contribute as a local resident. However, due to scarce housing, he has not been able to find a home in the town.
※I had assumed I would at least be able to find a place to live for myself,§ said Tsuchiya, the deputy secretary-general of the Futaba Project, a local community-development organization. After searching hard day after day, he could not find any available housing in Futaba. Eventually, he found an apartment in the town of Tomioka, about 15 kilometers away.
