A government expert panel tasked with discussing groundwater use, including by foreign nationals, met for the first time Monday and plans to compile a report by this summer.
The land ministry panel was convened as the government seeks to work with local authorities to collect nationwide data on groundwater extraction 〞 including users＊ nationalities 〞 and introduce conservation measures. There has been growing media attention on foreign nationals acquiring land, which has raised concerns about them also acquiring any groundwater attached to the land.
※Concerns and interest regarding groundwater extraction by foreign nationals are among the issues being raised, and the panel will seek opinions on how such matters should be addressed,§ a land ministry spokesperson said after the meeting.
