Tokyo on Wednesday ¡°strongly demanded¡± Iran release a Japanese national detained in Tehran days earlier, a top government spokesman said, as the U.S. continues to weigh the possibility of war against the Middle Eastern country.
?Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Masanao Ozaki told reporters that local authorities had detained the Japanese national, whom he declined to identify, in the Iranian capital on Jan. 20.
¡°Since learning of this detention, the government has strongly demanded that the Iranian side secure the early release of the Japanese national,¡± Ozaki told a regular news conference, adding that Tokyo was ¡°in contact with the individual, their family and other relevant parties, providing necessary support.¡±
