The Centrist Reform Alliance (CRA) is facing serious questions about its future in the wake of a disastrous defeat in Sunday¡¯s general election ¡ª starting with picking a new leader.
The fledgling opposition party ¡ª founded by the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDP) and Komeito just days ahead of the Jan. 23 Lower House dissolution ¡ª is now preparing for a party leadership vote ahead of Feb. 18, where Sanae Takaichi will be reconfirmed as the country¡¯s prime minister by parliament.
The CRA¡¯s newly elected lawmakers held a plenary meeting in Tokyo on Wednesday and agreed to pick a new chief on Friday.
