But within the opposition camp, there was a line between winners and losers, as fresher, more conservative-leaning parties gained some ground with the electorate and skillfully used social media to entice younger voters.
Meanwhile, other parties who have suffered from persistent image issues fell flat in their opposition to the LDP, and came out of the election weakened and deflated.
