A power outage occurred near JR Ueno Station in Tokyo at around 7 a.m. on Friday, prompting the partial suspension of operations on the Joban Line.
According to its operator East Japan Railway, or JR East, an overhead line was broken.
Services were resumed at around 2 p.m., the operator said.
JR East asked passengers on the four trains that had been stopped in between stations to alight and walk on rail tracks to nearby stations.
As of 11 a.m., Joban Line trains were suspended between Shinagawa Station in Tokyo and Abiko Station in Chiba Prefecture, with rapid train service stopped between Shinagawa Station and Matsudo Station in Chiba Prefecture.
The power outage also forced JR East to suspend service on the Utsunomiya Line and the Takasaki Line before resuming operations after 8 a.m.
On Jan. 16, JR East suspended operations of the Yamanote Line in the Tokyo metropolitan area for roughly eight hours because of operational errors during construction work at night.
