As talk of a snap election next month grows, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDP) and Komeito have agreed to work toward creating a new centrist political opposition force.
But what an agreement will look like in practice, and to what extent the parties will be able to quickly coordinate their candidates if Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi calls an election next month, as is widely reported, remain unclear.
