Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is considering dissolving the Lower House for a snap election early next month, a media report citing unidentified government sources said, as the Japanese leader looks to stabilize the ruling bloc¡¯s fragile majority in the body.
Under such a scenario, the Friday, Takaichi would look to capitalize on her soaring approval ratings to give her Liberal Democratic Party and its coalition partner, the Japan Innovation Party, an electoral victory and potentially a fresh majority in the powerful Lower House.
The report said that Takaichi is considering a Jan. 27 announcement and ?Feb. 8 election or a Feb. 3 announcement and a Feb. 15 poll. A regular session of parliament is due to begin on Jan. 23.
