If one had to choose a book title to capture Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi¡¯s first two months at Japan¡¯s helm, ¡°Great Expectations,¡± by British Victorian writer Charles Dickens, would be fitting.
With outstanding approval ratings, a regained Lower House majority and an ambitious policy agenda, Takaichi seems to have enjoyed a tailwind since taking office on Oct. 21.
This year, the prime minister will have to show the electorate she¡¯s able to meet its expectations, and that her grand designs for the country will be accompanied by steady leadership and tangible answers to the country¡¯s challenges.
