Tokyo police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder following the stabbing of a woman in the Takadanobaba district of the capital¡¯s Shinjuku Ward on Monday.

Zhu Yu, a 35-year-old Chinese national, was arrested early Tuesday by the International Crime Division of the Metropolitan Police Department. Zhu has remained silent, investigative sources said.

The woman in her 30s, a manager of an aesthetic salon, was stabbed in four places, including her chest and stomach, around 12:10 p.m. Monday. The victim was conscious when she was sent to hospital and is not in a life-threatening condition, police said.

Police believe the two are acquainted as she had told them that the man is a customer at the salon. Police are looking into the motive for the attack as there is information that the man had troubles with the salon over payments for services.

After the attack, the suspect fled the scene by taxi and train. Police found him at a restaurant in the city of Chiba on Monday night.

The site of the incident is about 200 meters southwest of Takadanobaba Station, and is located in a residential area.
