A woman was stabbed in Tokyo¡¯s Shinjuku Ward on Monday, with the suspect fleeing the scene while holding a knife, police said.
Tokyo¡¯s Metropolitan Police Department received emergency calls from several witnesses at around noon saying the woman had been attacked. Police are searching for the suspect.
Police said the woman in her 30s, an employee of an aesthetic salon, was attacked by a man from the front in a corridor on the second floor of an apartment complex where the salon is located.
She was stabbed multiple times and sustained injuries to her chest and other parts of her body but was conscious when she was taken to the hospital. Police believe the two are acquainted as she told them that the man is a customer at the salon.
The suspect is slim, appears to be in his 30s and is roughly 175 centimeters tall. He was dressed in black, wearing a hat and had a backpack with him.
The incident took place in a residential area about 200 meters southwest of Takadanobaba Station.
Following the incident, a nearby cram school asked parents to come pick up their children, and staff stood outside to watch over students entering and exiting the school¡¯s building.
The latest case follows an incident in March in which a woman was fatally stabbed while live-streaming in the Takadanobaba district.
¡°This place was a safe and calm neighborhood, although it is close to a station,¡± a woman in her 60s who lives nearby said. ¡°I¡¯m scared that such incidents are ´Ç³¦³¦³Ü°ù°ù¾±²Ô²µ.¡±
