With parliament set to wrap up on Wednesday, the ruling coalition has agreed to hold off discussions on a bill reducing Lower House seats by 10% until next year.
Following a meeting with Japan Innovation Party leader Hirofumi Yoshimura on Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who also serves as Liberal Democratic Party president, said the bill would continue to be deliberated.
※We agreed that, under the Lower House committee to discuss the election system and taking into account the results of the national census, the LDP and the Japan Innovation Party will cooperate to ensure a concrete plan is achieved,§ Takaichi said.
