An infant¡¯s severed head, arms and legs were found in the refrigerator of an out-call service provider for sex workers in Tokyo¡¯s Sumida Ward on Saturday, the Metropolitan Police Department said.
The police said they received an emergency call at around 9 p.m. that day from a male worker saying he was cleaning the fridge and found what appeared to be the head of a child. A police officer who rushed to the office in a multitenant building discovered the body parts in a freezer compartment of a mini refrigerator, they said.
The police are investigating the case as mutilation and abandonment of a corpse.
The head was wrapped in a plastic bag and the arms and legs were placed in a plastic food container. The torso has not been found, according to police.
The body parts are believed to be those of an infant around a few months old, but the gender is unknown.
The office is located in a downtown area near Kinshicho Station.
A 35-year-old man who works at a nearby restaurant said, ¡°I came to work at around 10 p.m. (that day) and saw the place being cordoned off and was wondering what happened. The place is used as a waiting room for sex workers and I often saw women going in and out.¡±
A woman in her 30s who works at another out-call center said, ¡°This is a rough neighborhood, but I can¡¯t believe such a thing happened.¡±
