A divorced parent who has custody of the child will be entitled to ?20,000 ($128) per child in monthly support from the other parent from next April even if they have not agreed to a set amount at the time of the divorce. The new framework is designed to help the custodial parent receive child support quicker.

The Justice Ministry announced the statutory monthly child support figure on Friday amid calls for a higher amount.

The statutory support provision will only apply to divorces concluded after April 1 of next year.
