The ruling coalition regained its majority in the Lower House on Friday as three independent lawmakers from the chamber decided to join the in-house group of the Liberal Democratic Party, allowing Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to pass key budget bills without the support of opposition parties.

The three, who had belonged to the same parliamentary group, told LDP Secretary-General Shunichi Suzuki that they will accept the LDP¡¯s invitation to join its in-house group.

¡°The three of us agreed that it is essential for us to join forces to support the approval of the budget proposals and the bills which will soon be on the table in parliament,¡± Lower House lawmaker Takeshi Saiki told reporters after meeting with Suzuki.
