Of all the political parties keeping an eye on Saturday¡¯s Liberal Democratic Party presidential election, none is more concerned than Komeito.
Whatever the result, the junior coalition partner will have to adjust to a new LDP, including one whose values might be different from its own, a prospect that has Komeito leader Tetsuo Saito concerned.
Just after Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced his resignation on Sept. 7, Saito said, in a surprise move, that Komeito cannot form a coalition government with any party that doesn¡¯t align itself with its moderate conservative policies.
