A company in Ukiha, Fukuoka Prefecture, is pioneering what it calls a ¡°grandma business¡± by operating unique eateries where elderly women, some with dementia, welcome guests with homestyle cooking.

The firm, Ukiha no Takara, operates three eateries called ¡°Ba-chan Kissa¡± (¡°Grandma¡¯s Cafe¡°) ¡ª one in the city of Kasuga and the other two in the city of Fukuoka¡¯s Jonan and Sawara wards. At the Jonan outlet, which opened in May, women with dementia are working to cook and serve meals to customers.

One day in July, a reporter visited the outlet in Jonan¡¯s Umebayashi district for lunch.
