Liberal Democratic Party Secretary-General Hiroshi Moriyama said he offered to resign from his position Tuesday, following a three-hour plenary session with party lawmakers from both chambers of parliament.
Saying he has to take responsibility for the LDP¡¯s loss in an Upper House election in July, Moriyama said he will now entrust his future to Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who also serves as party chief.
¡°I sincerely apologize for failing to meet people¡¯s expectations,¡± Moriyama said. ¡±From now onward, as a party member holding a seat in parliament, I¡¯ll do my utmost to restore trust in the party and contribute to its success.¡±
