The Group of Seven nations on Wednesday called for ¡°humanitarian pauses¡± in fighting between Israel and Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, as their top diplomats sought to present a united front during talks in Tokyo amid growing calls for a cease-fire.
¡°We stress the need for urgent action to address the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Gaza,¡± the G7 ministers said in a joint statement. ¡°All parties must allow unimpeded humanitarian support for civilians, including food, water, medical care, fuel, and shelter, and access for humanitarian workers.¡±
The statement didn¡¯t mention a cease-fire, only noting the necessity of humanitarian action. While the group advocated for protection of civilians and compliance with international law, no explicit condemnation of Israel¡¯s warfare in Gaza was included in the statement.
