U.S. Army soldier Travis King, who was detained by North Korea in July, was in American custody Wednesday, the White House said, bringing the dramatic incident to a close more than two months after he sprinted across the border from the South.
¡°U.S. officials have secured the return of Private Travis King from the Democratic People¡¯s Republic of Korea (DPRK),¡± U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement, thanking Sweden and China for their ¡°assistance in facilitating the transit of Private King.¡±
U.S. officials told reporters on condition of anonymity that King appeared to be ¡°in good health and good spirits¡± after being transferred to U.S. custody at the Chinese border city of Dandong, where he was met by U.S. Ambassador to China Nicolas Burns.
