The government will raise subsidies under a domestic tourism campaign from ?5,000 to as much as ?8,000 per person, covering both accommodation and transportation fees, when it expands the currently regional program to the whole country in July, tourism minister Tetsuo Saito said Friday.
A ?2,000 coupon for dining and shopping will become a ?1,000 coupon on weekends and ?3,000 on weekdays. In total, travelers on package trips will get up to ?11,000 per night per person. The campaign will run from the first half of July through the end of August, excluding the Bon holidays in mid-August.
¡°We want to promote trips to places that are further away,¡± Saito told a news conference.
