Roger Federer said on Tuesday in Tokyo that his decision to end a 20-year association with Nike and embark on a new chapter with Uniqlo was influenced by the Japanese clothing company¡¯s commitment to stay with him long after his playing days are over.
While no financial details have been announced, media reports have said the new deal would be worth about $30 million a year, compared with the $10 million a year agreement Federer had with Nike.
The 37-year-old, who has won 20 Grand Slam singles titles ¡ª a men¡¯s record ¡ª signalled the end of his association with Nike in July when he walked out onto Wimbledon¡¯s Centre Court dressed in Uniqlo apparel.
