With a recent deluge of international travelers to Japan and plenty more aspirants, it may be no surprise that the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) has a group of Japanese words into the English lexicon ¡ª less than two years after 23 entries from Japanese, ranging from ¡°kintsugi¡± (a technique for mending broken pottery with melted gold) to ¡°yakiniku¡± (grilled meat), were incorporated.
While the 2024 set was predominantly gastronomic in nature, the latest list of 11 terms is somewhat scattershot and bound to raise some eyebrows.
