Earlier this month, McDonald¡¯s Japan sparked controversy when it failed to control ÙI¤¤Õ¼¤á (kaishime, excessive bulk purchases) by Üž‰Ó¥ä©` (³Ù±ð²Ô²ú²¹¾±²â¨¡, resellers/scalpers) after offering rare Pokemon trading cards with its ¥Ï¥Ã¥Ô©`¥»¥Ã¥È (happ¨© setto, Happy Meals).
The result was a lot of upset children and a ton of discarded food.
The Japanese word for scalper, Üž‰Ó¥ä©`, is a combination of the word Üž‰ÓÎÝ (tenbaiya, reseller) with the ¡°-er¡± of ¡°buyer¡± added to stretch out the ¡°a¡± sound at the end.
