On June 27, the Japan Meteorological Agency declared ÷ÓêÃ÷€± (tsuyu-ake, the end of rainy season) in Western Japan ¡ª marking the earliest end to ÷Óê (tsuyu, rainy season) on record and the official start of ÏÄ (natsu, summer) there.
÷ÓêÃ÷€± is one thing, but I find that the real sign marking the arrival of summer gets taped up in the windows of ramen shops across the country: ¡žÀä€ä€·ÖÐÈAÊŒ€á€Þ€·€¿¡¹(Hiyashi chš±ka hajimemashita) ¡ª ¡°We¡¯ve started (serving) chilled ramen.¡±
Àä€ä€·ÖÐÈA (Hiyashi chš±ka, chilled ramen) isn¡¯t just a dish, it¡¯s a seasonal cue ¡ª a ÏÄ€ÎïLÎïÔ (natsu no fš±butsushi, thing that reminds you of summer).
