With the crowning of Priyanka Yoshikawa as Miss World Japan 2016, the nation will once again be represented by a multiracial woman on the world stage of beauty ¡ª and although somewhat more muted this time around, once again the nation¡¯s social-media feeds were buzzing with Ó‘Õ“ (³Ù¨°ù´Ç²Ô, debate).
Yoshikawa is a Tokyo native with an Indian ¸¸ÓH (chichi oya, father) and Japanese ĸÓH (haha oya, mother), and her „ÙÀû (²õ³ó¨°ù¾±, win) at Miss World Japan comes a year after Ariana Miyamoto became the first multiracial woman ¡ª she has an African-American father and Japanese mother ¡ª to ÈÕ±¾¤ò´ú±í¤¹¤ë (Nihon o daihy¨ suru, represent Japan) in the Miss Universe contest, another of the ÊÀ½ç3´ó¥ß¥¹¥³¥ó¥Æ¥¹¥È (sekai san dai misu kontesuto, world¡¯s three most prestigious Miss beauty pageants).
