The summer is here. You¡¯ve kept your New Year¡¯s resolution and stuck with that diet or new exercise regimen ... right? It doesn¡¯t matter. These beaches are so beautiful, nobody will be looking at the people.

Usu Beach in Date, Hokkaido Usu doesn¡¯t get much precipitation and the waves are quite low, which makes this beach popular with families. There¡¯s also a marine center nearby that provides equipment for rafting and jet skiing.

Jodogahama Beach in Iwate Prefecture Known as Pure Land Beach for its Buddhist vibes, Jodogahama is surrounded by tall white rocks, green pine trees and crystal clear water.

Atami Sun Beach in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture Slap on the sunscreen and get ready to play a variety of water sports. If you¡¯re not feeling active, relax in one of Atami¡¯s numerous nearby hot springs or just enjoy the view of Hatsushima Island.

Koijigahama Beach in Tahara, Aichi Prefecture Koijigahama is known for its beautiful white sand. It¡¯s also a hit with couples who lock padlocks on a fence to symbolize their relationship.

Shirahama Beach in Wakayama Prefecture This beach is also popular for its white sand (it¡¯s even in the name), but as an added bonus for tourists, there are also numerous relics from Japan¡¯s Heian Period (794-1185).

Doigahama Beach in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture Located on the Sea of Japan, Doigahama is less than a 15-minute drive from the end of Shimonoseki¡¯s Tsunoshima Bridge. There are also plenty of camping options on the beach.

Honjima Beach in Marugame, Kagawa Prefecture The island of Honjima is located in the Seto Inland Sea. The beach is popular for star gazing due to its rather remote location and clear night skies.

Takahama Beach in Goto, Nagasaki Prefecture One of the country¡¯s best beaches, with an urban cityscape visible it¡¯s also rather unusual. The sunsets, however, are still reputed to be very romantic.

Haimurubushi Beach on Kohama Island, Okinawa Prefecture

Although Okinawa is largely spoiled when it comes to beaches, tourists say Haimurubushi is a special one. A 25-minute ferry ride from Ishigaki Island, the water is amazingly transparent and clean. The nearby resort also offers bars and restaurants by the sea.
