More bags to bring
Garuda Indonesia has raised the free checked baggage allowance for customers across all cabin classes, valid on tickets issued from May 14 onward departing from or arriving in Japan.
The limits have been increased from 30 kg to 46 kg for economy class, 40 kg to 64 kg for business class and 50 kg to 64 kg for first-class passengers.
The airline also provides an additional allowance of 23 kg per passenger for music and sporting equipment ¡ª including surfboards, golf clubs, bicycles and diving gear ¡ª at no extra charge.
Passengers are allowed to bring as many pieces as they want, as long as the combined weight is within the limit.
However, a single piece must weigh less than 32 kg. Luggage measuring more than 120 cm on one side, or with a combined length, width and height of more than 203 cm will not be accepted.
New routes to Taiwan
China Airlines will be doubling the number of flights serving the Sapporo-Taiwan route this summer.
This will bring the total number of flights departing from New Chitose Airport in Sapporo to 19, of which five will arrive in Kaohsiung and the remaining 14 will arrive at Taoyuan Airport in Taipei.
The new CI194 and CI195 flights will be available from July 1 until Aug. 3. Service will resume on Sept. 1, but the schedule has yet to be determined.
Hiroshima gains flights
Dragonair will commence a twice-weekly service between Hong Kong and Hiroshima in Japan starting Aug. 16 (subject to government approval).
The airline will be the first carrier to offer a non-stop service between Hong Kong and Hiroshima.
Flight KA351/CX5351 will depart Hiroshima at 7:00 p.m. and arrive in Hong Kong at 9:45 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays.
On the return, KA350/CX5350 will depart Hong Kong at 1:10 p.m. and arrive in Hiroshima at 5:45 p.m. on Thursdays and depart at 12:10 p.m. and arrive at 4:45 p.m. on Sundays.
Hiroshima will become Dragonair¡¯s fourth destination in Japan, joining Tokyo (Haneda), Fukuoka and Okinawa in its network.
This latest addition will strengthen Dragonair¡¯s network in Asia and further boost its presence in Japan.
¡°Japan has long been a popular destination among Hong Kong travelers and this new service will cater to the growing demand for both leisure and commercial traffic,¡± said Dragonair Chief Executive Officer Algernon Yau.
¡°The launch of the Hiroshima service highlights Dragonair¡¯s commitment to developing a comprehensive network in Asia and, at the same time, strengthening Hong Kong¡¯s position as one of the region¡¯s key aviation hubs,¡± added Yau.
With this new service, Dragonair and sister airline Cathay Pacific will operate more than 140 flights a week to eight destinations in Japan.
