On his first day of high school, a boy meets a girl who knows his name and claims they¡¯ve always been destined to meet. So begins ¡°You, Fireworks, and Our Promise,¡± a time-travel anime film made with workmanlike competence but scant originality, squarely aimed at the young-adult set.
The film is based on a story by Kaori Mado that was serialized online on Note, a Japanese blogging platform, between August and October 2025 and later published as a novel. Michihiko Umezawa, president of Shin-ei Animation, the production company behind the film, had originally commissioned Mado for a story based around the annual fireworks festival in Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture, with the idea that it could later be adapted for the visual medium.
