Godzilla may be Japan¡¯s most famous °ì²¹¾±Âᨱ (monster), but Mothra isn¡¯t far behind. And much like Godzilla, Mothra is more than just a cinematic creature of destruction: She¡¯s long been a vehicle for contemplating the concerns of the age.
The giant multicolored moth °ì²¹¾±Âᨱ, who frequently fights against (and sometimes alongside) Godzilla, has been the focus of several of her own films, beginning with 1961¡¯s ¡°Mothra,¡± helmed by ¡°Godzilla¡± director Ishiro Honda and special effects supervisor Eiji Tsuburaya.
