Walt Disney Co. will air a six-part docuseries on the behind-the-scenes action of Taylor Swift¡¯s Eras Tour, the highest-grossing concert tour of all time.
¡°Taylor Swift/ The Eras Tour/ The End of an Era¡± will premiere on the Disney+ streaming service on Dec. 12, Swift announced in a social media post and on the TV show ¡°Good Morning America¡± on Monday. The series will be accompanied by the simultaneous release of a new concert film, shot at the tour finale in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The series will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at how the show, which Swift performed in 51 cities across five continents from March 2023 through December 2024, came together. The tour grossed more than $2 billion in ticket sales and was attended by more than 10 million people.
Disney shares jumped 1.2% Monday morning in New York after the news.
The first two episodes will premiere on Disney+ on Dec. 12, with two episodes airing weekly for the next two weeks, according to an announcement on ¡°Good Morning America.¡± The series chronicles the ¡°development, impact and inner-workings that created the phenomenon that was The Eras Tour,¡± Disney said in a statement about the release. The show gives an ¡°intimate look at Taylor¡¯s life,¡± and spotlights performers, family members and friends, including Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran and Florence Welch.
¡°Taylor Swift/The Eras Tour/The Final Show¡± will also premiere on Disney+, a full concert film of the popstar¡¯s final stop on her tour at BC Place in Vancouver on Dec. 8, 2024. The film includes the entire set of Swift¡¯s ¡°The Tortured Poets Department¡± album, which she released during the tour, for the first time. The tour included four shows at Tokyo Dome from Feb. 7 to 10, 2024.
There has been an earlier concert film about the tour, ¡°Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,¡± which was released in theaters in October 2023 in the midst of the show, and became the highest-grossing concert film of all time. An extended cut of the film was released on Disney+ in March 2024.
The multiplatinum artist just released her latest album, ¡°The Life of a Showgirl,¡± alongside a sing-along movie titled ¡°The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,¡± distributed by AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc.
The new album garnered 4 million U.S. units sold in the first week, according to data from Luminate, breaking the previous record held by the British singer Adele. The number includes physical album sales and their streaming equivalent.
