Mount Vesuvius¡¯ most famous eruption buried the ancient Roman town of Pompeii with a thick layer of volcanic ash almost 2,000 years ago. Rediscovered in the 18th century, the murals that were preserved beneath the ash continue to capture the world¡¯s imagination. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Italy and Japan¡¯s diplomatic relations, the Mori Arts Center Gallery is showcasing more than 80 pieces of art, including wall paintings, scriptures and a full-size replica of a mural-covered room.
One of the major highlights is ¡°Theseus and the Minotaur,¡± which is being displayed in Japan for the first time.
