Feb. 22-April 3

A year after his sensational ¡°We Buy White Albums¡± exhibition, which involved a display of more than 1,000 copies of The Beatles¡¯ 10th album ¡°The Beatles,¡± New York-based artist Rutherford Chang is back with yet another obsessively repetitive work.

Proving itself as a small space with big ambitions, the shipping container-sized The Container in Tokyo¡¯s Nakameguro neighborhood is exhibiting 1,764 videos of Chang playing the video game classic ¡°Tetris¡± on a Game Boy.

This is a documentation of Chang¡¯s efforts to achieve the world¡¯s highest ¡°Tetris¡± score. So far he has made it to the second place, with only Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak beating him. This project has been exhibited online via YouTube and live-streamed by Rhizome, a digital-art website and affiliate in residence at the New Museum in New York. This showing in Tokyo is the first time the videos are being exhibited within a physical gallery space.
