German illustrator and painter Michael Sowa, who has won numerous art prizes, including the Olaf Gulbransson Prize in 1995 and the Berlin Book Prize for children¡¯s literature in 2004, is best known for his surreal but whimsical works. ¡°Visit,¡± an oil painting in warm shades of brown, orange and green, for example, features a sleeping couple who are completely unaware of a giant spider looming above their heads.

The Megumi Ogita Gallery exhibition is showing Sowa¡¯s latest works of rabbits and bears, as well as earlier paintings from his ¡°Security Series.¡±
